Discover the diverse towns along Australia’s most magnificent waterway.

Linked together by Australia’s greatest waterway, the Riverland and Murray River (incorporating the Lakes and Coorong) are two quite distinct regions although both offer a unique combination of landscapes, outdoor adventures and gourmet experiences.

The Murray flows for more than 2500 kilometres from the Snowy Mountains to the Southern Ocean providing the perfect backdrop for an action-packed family holiday.

Renting a houseboat to explore The Mighty Murray remains the signature experience. There are all kinds of aquatic adventures on offer including kayaking, fishing, kite surfing, and of course jet skiing.

With an abundance of fresh produce, the Riverland and Murray River are popular destinations for foodies. The Riverland produces about half of South Australia’s grapes and 90 per cent of the stone and citrus fruit.

Boutique producers are creating handmade gourmet foods which will delight visitors with the variety and quality available. Buy fresh, straight from the farm gate or farmers markets, or head to one of the many cafés and restaurants in the region.

The Riverland has long been celebrated as one of the largest wine producing regions in Australia and is now also known for craft beer, cider and spirits. There are also a number of small producers to be found in the Murray River, Lakes & Coorong. Several of the smaller family-owned operations don’t have a cellar door, but look out for their wines at local hotels, restaurants and bottle shops.

Follow the river through the ever-changing landscapes and experience the nature and history of each of the townships. From the Riverland to the Murray Mouth you will be fed, entertained and inspired.
