Pipers of Penola, situated on the doorstop of the Coonawarra is an up market and contemporary restaurant offering an a la carte restaurant menu with an emphasis on regional produce. Located in a small, white, weatherboard, church, Pipers is a must-visit destination for travellers who are likely also heading up the road to tour the famed wineries of the Coonawarra.
Cape Jaffa Wines
The Cellar Door and Tasting Bar at Cape Jaffa Wines is built from paddock rock, part of an old woolshed and includes an underground barrel hall excavated to provide the barrels with a cool pace to rest and work their magic. The earthy flavour continues throughout the tasting areas combining freestone and pre-loved timbers to provide visitors with a relaxed environment to unwind with a glass of wine and some nibbles.
Drink Ottelia + Eat Fodder
Enjoy a series of small dishes designed for sharing at Fodder in Coonawarra. With ingredients sourced from the restaurant garden and local suppliers, the menu is constantly changing but you can always find pizza – just don’t ask for pineapple or chicken (although you’re invited to BYO). Upstairs at Hollick
Part of a development at Hollick Estates, the appropriately names restaurant Upstairs at Hollick was the first winery restaurant in the famous Coonawarra wine region. Floor to ceiling windows ensure uninterrupted views over the “Neilson’s Block” vineyard and beyond to the broader Coonawarra region. Diners also enjoy a seasonally changing menu and a peek into the barrel store where they may catch a glimpse of the winemaker plying his craft.
